Spalted Maple, from the Missouri Ozarks is very desirable for wood projects, especially bowls. When the tree is green and healthy the wood is white, but when spalting occurs you see "spalt" lines and patterns, many times having a multicolored background, with shades of yellow, orange, brown and red.
